On 1 June 2010 the Archives and Records Association (ARA) was officially formed as a result of a merger of the National Council on Archives; the Association of Chief Archivists in Local Government (ACALG) and the society of Archivists (SoA). With the creation of ARA, the National Council on Archives ceased to operate as an independent group. Ongoing NCA activities are now continued by the new organisation, further information about which can be found at www.archives.org.uk The website of the National Council on Archives continues to serve as a resource for professional literature.

Library and Archive of Downside Abbey in Somerset, we have recently begun our beacon of learning project. The school attached to the Abbey lost many ex pupils in the Great War and we want to recognise this sacrifice during the Centenary.

Museum of South Somerset

The building which housed the museum of South Somerset closed in 2011. The items in the museum have been moved to the Community Heritage Access Centre (CHAC) at SSDC Lufton Depot, 7 Artillery Road, Lufton, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 8RP which is open by appointment. Collections: Includes archaeology from the many Roman Villa sites in South Somerset. Particular strengths of the collection are gloving and the Stiby firearm collection.
